Fashion in Different Cultures

I've done a lot of traveling in my 20 years of life, and one of the cultural differences that I find most interesting is the fashion.  If you have traveled even outside of your hometown, you would know that there are different types of dress no matter where you go. What is viewed as beautiful here, isn't necessarily viewed as beautiful in the other areas around the world. Even in the next state over fashion is different. For example, I'm from Washington and yet I live in Idaho. If you were walking down the streets of Seattle not one person would be wearing Camo and yet 95% of students at school are wearing either a Camo jacket, hat, or even Camo scarves (just in case you want to be fashionable while you're hiding from bears or angry professors). It's amazing how fashion can vary so much just based on geography.

It's even more amazing when you travel outside of the country you've originated from, and see this whole new world of different fashion and different faces. I've been to Paris a few times, and the most recent is when I was 17, and a senior in high school. I wish that Americans dressed like Parisians everyday, because the Paris street style was absolutely gorgeous. Women would drive around in Mopeds wearing Stiletto heels and looking very put together and perfect. Meanwhile I'm rocking a baggy T-shirt and tourist sunglasses. You will find that the style changes from Paris to areas in the South of France such as Nice or more towards Provence. In Southern France, the fashion is more laid back and casual but still beautiful. The people tend to use more earth tones unlike the Parisians who use brighter colors.

Similarly, In Italy most of the fashion happens to be of brighter tones, and happier colors. My favorite cultural styles come from Europe because no matter the age of the person, they continue to be as stylish as they can be without even trying. In Europe, the fashion happens to be more of what Americans are used to, just in a more classy way. When you travel to other places such as South America, the Caribbean, India, or any other area the style tends to be more of what we aren't exactly used to. It might be viewed as more inappropriate for women to show their shoulders, or knees, or any other type of body part. The colors get more mixed up or used in different ways as well. Even fashion that isn't necessarily apparel may be different such as hairstyles, makeup, or jewelry. It's so interesting to me that in just other areas of the world the fashion is so completely different than what we may be used to.

Fashion is a form of art, and it is quite possibly the only art form that varies from zip code to zip code.

With that being said, I strongly encourage you as a reader to research the different types of fashion per country. I think you will be inspired.

        Stay Excellent,
